There are great opportunities in the industry for specialist bathroom fitters; as it is an area which enjoys steady demand. A good fitter is a well paid and rewarding job. Our course is specifically designed for people who wish to learn the skills commonly used for the installation of bathroom fittings. Some prior basic plumbing knowledge and DIY skills would be useful, but are not essential. Start dates are flexible to suit your needs.
What will I learn?
The course will give you the basic elements of bathroom fitting to give you a greater understanding of what is involved.
- Introduction to Health and Safety - kinetic lifting, use of ladders, LP Gas and PPE. You will also have an overview of the mains water supply.
- Decommissioning - disconnect bath, basin and WC and decommission; then remove S/G units.
- Checking – check condition of floor areas and joists, and remove existing pipework. Also check condition of soil stack, replace if required and replace any pipe runs where necessary.
- Installation - S/G sanitary wear, bath, basin and WC. Pipe up to new S/G.
- Connecting – waste outlets and fittings connect to external stack / refill system.
- Final checking - check copper pipe work for leaks, check plastic for leakage. Also check for blockages inside and outside. Throughout this stage you will be expected to keep general tidiness and maintenance.
As the course lasts only one week, you will have limited time to cover all of these elements in detail. Therefore some of the tasks above may be covered in theory only.
What do I need to bring?
You will be required to bring steel-capped boots or shoes and overalls. All tools and other material will be provided for the duration of your course.
